DAY 3 – Boome – Port Hedland (610km)

In the morning, we returned the rented car, took our luggage from the apartment and headed to our Motorhome pickup site.

There was another group ahead of us, and we had to wait at the office.

Our turn came after a 30-minute wait.

As we inspected our assigned Motorhome, we noticed a couple of major damages and highlighted them to the office staff, like this broken tail bumper.

Big chips on the front bumper.

Peeling at the top. The staff recorded the defects, and we were not charged for these damages when we returned the motorhome later.

After getting the instructions on how to operate the Motorhome, we were on our way.

Our motorhome came with 4 berths, a dining table with chairs, a television, a fridge, air conditioning, a microwave oven, and a gas stove. It is also equipped with a toilet and a shower at the back. It has a total length of 27 feet.

For most of the journey, we will be driving on paved roads like this.

We refueled our motorhome as soon as we came across a rest station.

Our motorhome requires Diesel only. Always ask the staff the fuel type for your rental vehicle.

The cost of our first fuel fill. We would always fill it up once the fuel gauge reached the halfway mark.

We arrived at our first Campervan Park at Port Hedland. This is the registration office at the Park.

The entrance to the Park.

We booked a 30-foot hard surface lot. The lot came equipped with water and electrical supply to support the functions of our motorhome.

The park was filled with various types of campervans and homes.

Besides open-air lots for campervans, the park also provides apartments.

Within the park, there is a swimming pool.

Camp Bathrooms for both men and women.

Laundry area and camp kitchen.
We had a quick dinner and called it a day.
DAY 4 – Port Hedland – Karratha (240km)

We checked out very early in the morning and headed to Port Hedland Boulevard for supplies.

Over the next few days, Woolworths would be our main place to shop for our daily supplies.

Look at what we bought for lunch.

Then we headed to the Rock of Ages nearby.

We followed the route indicated on Google Maps.

Through a sandy path.

And arrived at the Rock of Ages.
Shaped over millions of years by wind, waves, and tides, it stands as a reminder of the region’s ancient geological history. Set against the turquoise Indian Ocean and red Pilbara earth, the Rock of Ages is a quiet scenic spot where visitors can appreciate the raw beauty and rugged character of Port Hedland’s coastal landscape.

We took turns to drive the rest of the journey.

A few hours later, we arrived at Karratha City Plaza for our next round of shopping.

We will be visiting Coles this time round.

The stuff was then placed in the fridge.

We are here at our home for the day: Discovery Park, Pilbara, Karratha.

The reception.

We were given a site map indicating our parking lot.

We drove to our lot, extended our bed and plugged in the water and electrical supplies.

A flock of cockatoos was having dinner in front of us.

The park consists of Children’s playground.

Swimming Pool

Laundry

Male and Female Bathrooms.

This is the typical look of a common Bathroom.

Camp Kitchen.

Most of the camp kitchens are equipped with fridges, microwave ovens, gas stoves, and washing basins.

BBQ stoves were also provided.

We cooked our food inside the Motorhome instead.

Good Night!!!
DAY 5 – Karratha – Exmouth (550km)

We loved the idea of preparing a hearty breakfast for ourselves in the morning.

Each morning before checking out, we will have to disconnect the water and electrical connections. We also cleared our toilet container before we started a new journey.

The site office operates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you need to check out early, just drop the key into the drop box provided. If you are arriving late after 5 p.m., they will email or text you the code to the safe so that you are able to retrieve the key to your site.

Before heading out, we visited Grand Central Tavern Karratha for some daily supplies.

It’s always good to have some fresh food with you during a long drive.

Took the opportunity to try out the Australian Hungry Jack’s.

Yummy.

Along the way towards Exmouth, we came across many of these rock-like structures.

A closer look at the structure. What do you think this is?

It’s only much later that we realised that these are Termite Mounds. Some of them could be as tall as 2 meters. There are thousands of them along both sides of the road.

Finally, we arrived at RAC Exmouth Cape Holiday Park. The mini buggies outside are for rental.

Although it is a huge park, it was fully booked for today.

This was the site assigned to us.

We decided to cook dinner at the Camp kitchen today, so we drove over to the nearest shopping street.

The supermarket there is IGA Ningaloo Harvest.

Our dinner tonight. Many of the fellow campers also came and cooked in the kitchen.

The camp kitchen has outdoor seating. It was much easier to cook here than inside the Motorhome.
